Breathing Treatments
Purpose Pediatrics provides on-site pediatric breathing treatments in Beaumont, TX during evening and weekend hours. If your child is wheezing, struggling with an asthma flare-up, or having a croup attack we’re happy to see them. We can deliver a nebulizer treatment and see whether your child can breathe easier before they leave.
When a Breathing Treatment Is the Right Call
Breathing treatments help when a child's airways are constricted or inflamed. Common situations include:
- Asthma flare-ups
- Wheezing during a cold, flu, or RSV illness
- Bronchiolitis (with provider judgment)
- Reactive airway response to allergens
If your child is in severe respiratory distress — lips turning blue, can't speak in full sentences, retracting at the chest, or losing consciousness — call 911 or go directly to the ER. We see moderate flare-ups, not severe respiratory emergencies.
What Happens During a Breathing Treatment
A pediatric provider evaluates your child's breathing, listens to their lungs, and decides whether a nebulizer treatment is appropriate. If it is, we deliver a nebulized medication (typically albuterol) through a mask or mouthpiece for about 10–15 minutes.
We monitor your child during and after the treatment. If breathing improves, we send you home with a clear plan and any prescriptions needed. If it doesn't, we direct you to the ER for closer monitoring.
What to Bring
- Your child's insurance card
- Your child's regular inhaler if they have one
- A list of any asthma medications they take regularly
- Notes on what triggered the flare-up if known
- The name of your child's regular pediatrician (if established)

Will a breathing treatment work for my child?
For most asthma flare-ups and wheezing related to illness, breathing treatments help fast. Our provider evaluates first to make sure it's the right intervention.
Can my child go home after the treatment?
Most kids do. We monitor them after the treatment and send you home with a clear plan if breathing has improved. If it hasn't, we'll send you to the ER for further care.
Do I need a prescription to come in for a breathing treatment?
No. Walk in during our open hours and we'll evaluate whether it's the right treatment.
How much does a breathing treatment cost?
For self-pay patients, an albuterol nebulizer treatment is $40, in addition to the standard sick visit fee. We also bill insurance.
