What to Expect
We understand that bringing your child to a new clinic can feel uncertain, particularly when they are not feeling well. The information below outlines what to expect during your visit to Purpose Pediatrics, from check-in through discharge.
Before You Come In
You don't need to do anything ahead of time. You can walk-in, or call us at (409) 225-5256 and we'll tell you the current wait, but it's not required.
Bring with you:
- Your child's insurance card
- A list of any medications your child takes
- A general timeline of symptoms — when they started, what you've tried
- The name of your child's regular pediatrician (if established)
When You Walk In
You'll check in at the front desk. We'll have you fill out a short intake form with basic information about your child — name, date of birth, insurance, contact info, and symptoms.
During the Visit
A pediatric provider will see your child for a focused exam based on what brought you in. We'll do any necessary tests on-site (rapid strep, flu, COVID, RSV, urinalysis, blood glucose), administer treatments where appropriate (breathing treatments, injections), and walk you through any follow-up care instructions.
If a prescription is needed, we'll send it to your pharmacy of choice before you leave.
When You Leave
You'll go home with a written summary of the visit and a clear plan for what to do next — including when to follow up with your regular pediatrician, what symptoms to watch for, and when to come back if things change.
How Long It Takes
Most sick visits take under an hour from check-in to walking out. Busy nights can run longer. If wait time is longer than expected, you’ll be notified at check-in.
What You'll Pay
If you're using insurance, your visit will be billed according to your plan. If you're paying self-pay, the base sick visit fee is $125, with separate flat-rate fees for tests and procedures. See our Insurance & Payment page for details.
What Happens If We Can't Help
If we see something during the visit that needs ER-level care or imaging we don't have on-site, we'll refer you to the proper centers that can provide the level of care needed.
